Psychiatric Evaluation
If you’re wondering whether medication might help, or if you just want to better understand what’s going on with your mental health, a psychiatric evaluation is a great place to start.
It’s not about labels or judgment — it’s about clarity. And clarity can be incredibly relieving.
What Is a Psychiatric Evaluation?
A psychiatric evaluation is simply a thoughtful, structured conversation. We’ll talk through what you’ve been experiencing — your mood, your energy, your focus, your sleep, your thoughts and feelings — and we’ll try to get a sense of the bigger picture.
Think of it as a guided deep-dive into your emotional and mental life, with someone trained to notice patterns, ask the right questions, and help make sense of it all.
Sometimes, the evaluation confirms that therapy alone is the right path. Other times, it helps us see that psychiatric medication might be useful as part of a larger treatment plan. Either way, you’ll walk out knowing more about yourself than when you walked in.
What It’s Not
It’s not a quiz.
It’s not a diagnosis you’re stuck with forever.
And it’s definitely not me telling you who you are or what you need.
It’s a collaborative process. You bring your experience. I bring my clinical training. Together, we explore what’s going on and what might help.
Why People Come In for an Evaluation
People seek out a psychiatric evaluation for all kinds of reasons:
- Persistent anxiety or depression that isn’t improving
- Mood swings, low motivation, or emotional numbness
- Panic attacks or chronic stress
- Trouble focusing, finishing tasks, or sitting still
- Sleep issues that don’t seem to resolve
- Just not feeling like yourself — and not knowing why
Sometimes you’re feeling stuck. Sometimes someone you love has encouraged you to talk to someone. Sometimes you’re just curious.
Whatever brings you in is valid.
What Happens After the Evaluation?
After our conversation, I’ll share my impressions with you — clearly and honestly — and we’ll talk through options. If psychiatric medication seems like it could help, we’ll discuss it thoroughly. If not, that’s okay too.
There’s no pressure. My goal is to help you make informed choices you feel good about.
If You’re Not Sure, That’s Okay
You don’t have to know what you need in order to reach out.
That’s the point of an evaluation — to find out.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused, or just want to understand yourself a little better, let’s talk.
